Intricate silk embroidered panel, possibly intended for a baby carrier, from the Yunan region of China, probably Yao or Miao ethnic minority groups (hill tribe people). Measures approx. 25 inches by 20 inches.Stitching and embroidery, with some forbidden stitch, is done on top of red and white fine cotton panels. With the double backing and tight embroidery, the panel is slightly stiff. Motifs include a dragon and possibly a peakock or other bird - their correct orientation in the panels is not easy to determine. I purchased this in a Bangkok antique textile shop about 20 years ago, along with several other Yao textiles. Textile appears to be new and never used/displayed.
